La veille de notre départ de Rotorua, nous pensions que nous devions rendre notre van à Auckland le lendemain puis en revérifiant, nous nous apercevons qu'il nous reste 24 heures de plus. Donc changement de programme: Nous partons pour la péninsule de Coromandel faisant avant un petit détour par une source d'eau froide qui jaillit du sol, 4.5 millions de litre a l'heure, de quoi remplir 2 piscines olympiques en 1 heure.
Après 4h de route nous atteigons la péninsule de Coromandel avec sa plage très particulière: Hot Water Beach. A un endroit précis de la plage, une source géothermale filtre à travers le sable. Il est parfois presque impossible de marcher sur le sable tellement c'est chaud. L' astuce consiste à se trouver un endroit pas trop chaud et de se construire une baignoire en creusant légèrement dans le sable. Et là, c'est le bonheur: un bain chaud en regardant le pacifique. Alec pensait que l' Australie allait être le dernier pays où il allait pouvoir se baigner. Et bien non, après avoir passer une bonne demi heure dans sa baigoire naturelle, il décide d'aller se rafraichir dans l'océan. D'autres touristes en feront de même après.
After 4 hours, we reach the Coromandel peninsula with it's very particular beach: Hot Water Beach. At a specific place on the beach, a geothermal spring filters through the sand. In some areas, it's impossible to walk on the sand due to the heat. The trick consists in finding a spot not too hot and build oneselve a bath in the sand by slightly digging. Then, it's heaven: a warm bath while looking at the pacific ocean. Alec thought Australia would be the last place for a swim in the sea. Well not really: after having spent a good half hour in his bath, he deicdes to cool down in the ocean. Other tourists will follow the idea after.

Malheureusement, les bonnes choses ont une fin et il temps de partir car nous devons rejoindre Aukland dans la soirée.
A day before our departure from Rotorua, we thought we had to drop off our van at Auckland the next day but whilst rechecking the dates we notice that we have an extra 24 hours. So we change our plans: We head to the Coromande peninsula but before that we stop over at some cold water springs which come out of the ground at a rate of 4.5milllion littres an hour, just enough to fill up two olympic pools in one hour.
Unfortunately, good things come to an end and it's time to get to Auckland by the evening.
