Nous sommes très chaleureusement acueillis par des anciens voisins/amis des grands parents de Rapahaëlle: Isabelle et Jeff,leurs enfants Sara-Louise, Clémence et le chat Jean, prononcé "Gin" comme une boisson très tonique! Nous nous sentons à la maison et passons une très bonne première soirée à faire connaissance.
Une nuit de sommeil dans un vrai lit apres 2 semaines de van, ça fait du bien. D'ailleurs il est temps de nous séparer de notre véhicule. A priori, la rayure que nous avions fait sur notre pare brise à Christchurch est bien prise en charge par la compagnie de location.
Nous sommes rassurés et partons explorer Auckland en nous balandant dans la grande université de la ville, la rue commerçante de Queen Street et le quartier des docks reconvertis lui aussi, comme à Sydney, en quartier avec bars/restos et apparts bobos. C'est toute en pente et il ny'a pas énormément de monuments à visiter à Auckland mais c'est une ville agréable où il fait bon y vivre avec ses cafés et son front de mer.
Le lendemain, nous partons avec Isabelle qui dépose Clémence à son club de voile. C'est sympa de pouvoir faire un peu de voile dans une grande ville le weekend. Puis direction notre premier musée d'art de la nouvelle Zélande, et ensuite le musée d'Auckland, très ressemblant au Te Papa de Wellington. Le soir, encore une fois, un très bon diner en compagnie de nos hôtes.
Notre court séjour en Nouvelle Zélande se termine donc à merveille. Nous avons réussi à faire notre parcours de 3000km en 2 semaines et cela en vallait vraiment la peine. C'est un pays absolument magnifique, avec une préférence pour l'île du Sud avec ses paysages à couper le souffle.
We're warmly welcomed by some old neighbours/friends of Raphaëlle's grand parents: Isabelle and Jeff, their children Sara-Louise, Clémence and Jean the cat. We feel at home and have a great first evening meeting each other.
A good night sleep in a real bed after 2 weeks in a van is pretty good. In fact we need to give back our vehicle. The scratch on the windscreen done in Christchurch is under the companies responsability. We reassured and go and explore Auckland by walking through the university, the shopping street of Queen's street and the docks area, also reabilitated like in Sydney, with bars/ restaurants and fancy flats. Aukland is a hilly town, there aren't that many buildings to visit but it's a pleasant place with its cafes and its seafront.
The next day, we leave with Isabelle who is dropping off Clémence at her sailing course. It's pretty good to be able to go sailing in a big town during the weekend. We then head to our first art museum in New Zealand followed by the Auckland museum which ressembles the Te Papa of Wellington. In the evening, we have again a good diner with our hosts.
Our short stay in New Zealand is coming to an end. We managed to do our 3000km tour in two weeks and it was really worth it. It's a beautifull country. Our preference went to the southern island where the scenery is stunning.
