Quelle est la capitale de l' Australie? Sydney? non. Mebourne? non. C'est bien Camberra. Il y'a eu un désacord entre Sydney et Melbourne donc Camberra a été entièrement construit dans le but d'être la capitale. Nous avons conduit toute la journée, en nous arrêtons à Yass pour la nuit, afin d'atteindre la capitale australienne.La visite de Camberra se fait sur une journée. C'est une ville nouvelle sans grand interêt. Par contre elle fait un énorme effort sur la culture car plusieurs musées sont éparpillés dans la ville. Comme il fait mauvais temps, ca tombe bien que nous soyons à l'intérieur. Nous optons en premier pour le mémorial de la première et seconde guerre mondiale. Le musée et bien fait mais il est surprenant qu'il n'explique pas comment la guerre s'est déclarée et s'est déroulée. Il décrit uniquement chaque combat dans lequel l' australie était impliqué. Les nombreux écoliers dans le musée écoutent donc les exploits des combatants australiens, qui il faut le dire ont été obligé de participer à une guerre à l'autre bout de la planète puisqu'ils faisaient partis du commonwealth.
Après ce petit cours d'histoire un peu biaisé, nous partons de l'autre coté de la ville pour faire un tour du parlement.Deuxième musée: la national gallery. Musée d'art très complet, comprenant art aborigène, européen, et australien. Nous nous perdons rapidement chacun de notre coté pour nous retrouver 3h plus tard, après avoir fait le tour des nombreuses pièces comprenant des tableaux d'art classique, modernes, surrealistes, pop etc ... Cela en vallait vraiment la peine.
Le soir, nous campons dans un camping en bordure de la ville dans le parc des expositions. Arrivés après 17h, nous trouvons la reception close mais allons nous installer quand même. Par contre le lendemain, nous sommes partis en oubliant (oups, volontairement!) de passer devant la réception pour payer puisqu'il n'y avait toujours personne....
Which is the capital city of Australia? Sydney? No. Melbourne? no. It is indeed Camberra. There was disagreement between Sydney and Melbourne on bieng the capital city so Camberra got built frolm scratch. We drove the whole day, stopping for the night at Yass, to reach Camberra.
Camberra's visit is done in a day. There isn't much to it. However, there is a strong focus on culture as numerous museums are scattered around the town. It's bad weather, so it's good that we'll spend time inside. We go for the first/second world war museum first. The museum is well done but it's surprising that it is not explained how the war was declared and how it happened. It only describes the battles in which the australians were implied. The school kids are listening to guides telling them the great achievements of the australian soldiers, who were afterall obliged to participate in the war as they were part of the commonwealth.
After this biased lesson, we head to the other side of town to go around the parlement. Second museum is the national gallery which is very good, displaying aborigenuous, european, and australian art. We loose each other on the museum and reunite 3 hours later after having explored all the rooms showing classical, modern, surrealist, pop art painting. It was well worth it.
In the evening, we camp in a caravan park on the edge of the city at the exhibition centre. We arrive at 5pm and the reception is shut but go so we find a spot ourselves. However, the next day, we leave voluntarily quite early without paying as the reception is still shut.....
