Emily's Guesthouse

Voici une bonne surprise. Pour quasiment le même prix que d'habitude (10 euros), nous trouvons à Melaka une guesthouse très originale. A l'exterieur la rue est bruyante et en pénétrant dans la maison nous découvrons un autre monde. Nous sommes accueillis par Pedro, un guest qui gère la guesthouse car le propriétaire est parti à Singapour pour deux jours. Cela donne une idée de l'ambiance car Pedro est venu plusieurs fois chez Emilys et le propriétaire lui fait entièrement confiance. Notre chambre se trouve dans la grande maison tout en bois, qui a un style colonial. A l'arrière se trouve un superbe petit jardin avec, un bassin contenant des gros poissons rouges, une cascade et 2 petites maisons qui sont également deux chambres. Tout a été fabriqué avec de la récupération et c'est très bien fait. Deux douches extérieures style tropicale (avec plante a l'interieur) sont à dispositions. Rapha veut la même à la maison! Finalement un coin de détente autour d'une table qui se transforme en barbecue est très agréable pour discuter avec tout le monde en buvant du café offert à volonté. Le seul bémol sont les moustiques qui s'acharnent sur nous le matin et soir.
L'ambiance est très relax et de ce fait nous sommes restés trois jours dont un pratiquement entier dans la guesthouse à lire, discuter et dormir. Le deuxième jour le propriétaire est revenu de Singapore et nous faisons sa connaissance en compagnie de Pedro. C'est une personne très chaleureuse et sympathique avec qui nous avons eu plusieurs discussions sur l'être humain, l'autosuffisance, les voyages..... Par contre nous remarquons qu'il juge très rapidement ses guests. Nous pensons (enfin nous l'espèrons) que nous avons eu une bonne image car nous ne sommes pas trop difficiles comparés a d'autres plus exigents. Il est effectivement interessant d'observer le comportement des gens qui ne prennent pas soins des choses lorqu'ils ne sont pas chez eux. En tout cas nous, nous sentons un petit peu à la maison chez Emily's et cela etait un bon choix du Lonely Planet même si le propriétaire nous a dit que sa clientèle avait beaucoup changé depuis qu'il était dans le guide.

For the usual hotel price that we pay (10 euros), we find at Melaka a very original guesthouse. Outside, the road is noisy but when entering the house we discover another world. We're welcomed by Pedro, another guest who is taking care of the guesthouse whilst the owner is in singapore for a couple of days. This already gives an idea of the atmosphere of the place in which Pedro came to stay a few times only but the owner has entire trust in him. Our room is in the wooden, colonial style house. In the back, there's a superb little garden with a pond containing huge gold fish, a waterfall and 2 houses which are rooms. Everything has been built with recuperated materials and it's really well done. Two outside showers, tropical style (with plants inside) are also available. Raphaelle wants the same at home! Finally, the lounging area where the table transforms into a barbecue, is a very cosy place to chat with everybody while drinking as much as you want coffee. The only downside are the mosquitos that attack us in the morning and in the evening but the owner has a technic to chase them away, by lighting coconuts in the barbecue table.
The atmosphere is really relaxed and as a result we stayed 3 days, and on one of them we even stayed all day at the house, reading, chatting and sleeping. The second day, the owner came back from Singapore et we met him with Pedro. He's a very kind person with who we had several discussions on human nature, autosufficiency and travels....However, we do realise that he judges very quickly his guests. We think (well we hope) that we 've been accepted as we're not too demanding in comparison to other guests. It is indeed interesting to watch others not taking care of belongings when they 're not a their own home. Well, we do feel at home at Emily's and it was a good choice from the lonely planet despite that the owner di tell us that his customers had changed a lot since he was in the guide.
